Program Pathway

A program pathway consists of the combination or “package” of secondary school courses that make up a student’s educational program and the supports that are provided in offering that program. These educational programs usually match the strengths, aptitudes and interests of the student following that particular pathway.
A program pathway is designed to lead a student to a particular destination within a large grouping of jobs that are related to each other in some special way.

Apprenticeship / College Programs

A person following this pathway would be taking “M” and “C” level courses in grades 11 and 12. The person might be following specialized programs including Cooperative Education and Accelerated OYAP courses which would lead directly into apprenticeship courses at Community College. Such programs can include such fields as Early Childhood Education, Heating & Refrigeration technicians, Hairdressing and Cosmetology, Auto Technician, Plumbing and Electrical fields. Some of these programs can lead to a College Diploma (See OYAP & Community College links above)

College Pathway

A person following this pathway would be taking “M” , “C” and sometimes “U” level courses in grades 11 and 12 at their local Secondary School. Ontario’s Community College network offers an incredibly diverse array of courses and programs leading to an assortment of certificates and diplomas. In some cases these colleges have direct links to universities allowing students to continue their studies, often with advanced standing. (see Community College links above)

University Pathway

Ontario is blessed with the some of the best universities in the world. They offer a broad spectrum of academic and professional programs for post-secondary students. Secondary School Students will predominately have taken courses at the “U” level and must be aware of the specific requirements for the individual programs they are applying for at these universities.
